Sage 2.0 Ransomware is a sophisticated piece of malware that was first discovered in the wild in early 2017. Sage 2.0 is a variant of the original Sage Ransomware that was first seen in late 2016.

Attackers distribute the ransomware through email attachments and malicious websites. Once it infects a computer, it will scan the hard drive for specific file types to encrypt. Some of the file types that Sage 2.0 targets include:

– Microsoft Office documents

– PDF documents

– Images

– Database files

Sage 2.0 encrypts the files using a strong AES-256 encryption algorithm and appends the “.sage” extension to the encrypted files. For example, a file named “sample.jpg” would be renamed to “sample.jpg.sage” after the ransomware has encrypted it.

After the encryption process is complete, it will display a ransom note that contains instructions on how to pay the ransom and decrypt the encrypted files. Sage 2.0 Ransomware demands payment in Bitcoin and provides a unique Bitcoin address for each victim. Also, Sage 2.0 uses a sophisticated technique called “double extortion” where it threatens to release the victim’s personal information if you do not pay the ransom.

Sage 2.0 Ransomware is a dangerous piece of malware that can cause a lot of damage to your computer and your personal data.

How much does Sage 2.0 Ransomware cost?

Sage 2.0 currently costs 1 Bitcoin, which is approximately $2,858 at the time of this writing. But the price could go up or down depending on the current value of Bitcoin.

Also, the Sage 2.0 Ransomware developers threaten to double the ransom if you do not pay within 7 days.

Should you pay Sage 2.0 Ransomware?

Paying Sage 2.0 Ransomware is a risky decision because there is no guarantee that you will get your files back even if you pay the ransom.

Some victims have reported that they paid but never received the decryption key from the attackers.

Additionally, by paying the ransom you would be supporting the cybercriminal’s business and encouraging them to continue their malicious activities.

Protection

There are several things that you can do to protect yourself from Sage 2.0 and other similar threats:

  • Use a reputable anti-malware program to scan email attachments and websites for malware before opening them.
  • Do not click on links or open attachments from unknown or untrustworthy sources.
  • Be cautious when downloading files from the internet, especially if the website is not trusted.
  • Keep your operating system and software up-to-date with the latest security patches.

What to do?

If attackers have infected you with this ransomware, it is important to remove the malware as soon as possible to prevent further damage to your computer. You can use a reputable anti-malware program to remove Sage 2.0 Ransomware and other malicious files from your computer. Once Sage 2.0 Ransomware has been removed, you can then restore your files from a backup.

Is there a public decryption tool?

No, there is no public decryption tool available for Sage 2.0 Ransomware at this time.

Attempting to remove the ransomware or decrypt the files without the help of a professional can result in further damage to your computer and your data.

I do not have a backup. What can I do?

We recommend that you consult with a professional to see if they can help you recover your data before trying any data recovery programs.
