What is Nemucod-7z?

Nemucod-7z is a ransomware that encrypts your files and demands a ransom for the decryption key.

You can get Nemucod-7z by clicking on a malicious link or attachment, downloading a malicious file, or visiting a compromised website.

How does Nemucod-7z Ransomware work?

Nemucod-7z Ransomware first checks if it’s already running on your computer. If not, it drops a copy of itself in the current user’s directory and creates a mutex with a random name. Then Nemucod-7z Ransomware starts to encrypt your files. It uses a strong encryption algorithm, which makes it impossible to decrypt your files without the key. Nemucod-7z Ransomware encrypts all kinds of files, including pictures, videos, documents, etc. After encrypting your files, Nemucod-7z Ransomware creates a text file named README!!!.txt in each folder that contains encrypted files. The text file contains information about the ransom and how to pay it. Nemucod-7z Ransomware also changes your desktop wallpaper and displays a message box containing the same information.

What encryption algorithm does Nemucod-7z Ransomware use?

This ransomware uses the AES-256 encryption algorithm. This algorithm is very strong.

History

It was first spotted in February 2016. It’s not known who created Nemucod-7z Ransomware or why. However, Nemucod-7z Ransomware was likely created for financial gain.

The biggest Nemucod-7z Ransomware attack occurred in May 2016. This attack affected more than 100,000 computers in over 150 countries. The Nemucod-7z Ransomware attack was stopped by a security researcher who found a flaw in the Nemucod-7z Ransomware code.

How much does Nemucod-7z Ransomware cost?

The Nemucod-7z Ransomware creators demand a ransom of 2 Bitcoins, which is about USD 1,000. They have also said that the price will double after 7 days. We do not recommend paying the ransom, as there’s no guarantee that they will give you the decryption key even if you pay.

If you don’t pay the Nemucod-7z Ransomware ransom, there’s a possibility that you will never be able to decrypt your files. Nemucod-7z Ransomware encrypted files can only be decrypted with the Nemucod-7z Ransomware decryption key. The Nemucod-7z Ransomware creators have said that they will delete the key if you don’t pay the ransom within 7 days.

The Nemucod-7z Ransomware creators can be contacted via the email addresses provided in the README!!!.txt file.

We do not recommend contacting them, as there’s no guarantee that they will give you the decryption key even if you pay. There have been reports of people who have paid the Nemucod-7z Ransomware ransom but have not received the decryption key.

Also, by paying the Nemucod-7z Ransomware ransom, you would be supporting their business and encouraging them to create more ransomware.

How to protect yourself from Nemucod-7z Ransomware?

There are some steps you can take to protect yourself from Nemucod-7z and other ransomware. First, you should always have a backup of your important files. That way, if you do get infected with Nemucod-7z Ransomware, you can just restore your files from the backup. Second, you should keep your antivirus software up-to-date and run regular scans. Third, you should be careful about what emails you open and what links you click. Many ransomware infections start with an email that contains a malicious attachment or link. Finally, you should avoid pirated software and websites that offer free downloads. These sites are often full of malware.

What should you do?

If someone has already infected you with Nemucod-7z Ransomware, the best thing you can do is restore your files from a backup. If you don’t have a backup, you can try using a data recovery program. However, there’s no guarantee that these programs will work. The Nemucod-7z Ransomware creators may have also deleted the original versions of your files.

How to remove Nemucod-7z Ransomware?

If you want to remove this ransomware from your computer, we recommend using an anti-malware program. Nemucod-7z Ransomware is a very dangerous threat, and it’s difficult to remove it manually. An anti-malware program will scan your computer for Nemucod-7z and other malware and then remove it automatically.

Public decryption tool
