World Backup Day 2019: Take the Pledge to Backup

2019-05-15T10:00:21-05:0029 Mar 2019|

March 31st of 2019 is World Backup Day.

It shares celebration privileges with Eiffel Tower Day and National Crayon Day, but today is really for reminding you to make backup copies of your important digital files.

Memorable family photos, design portfolios, and tax documents can all be lost in an instant if you haven’t backed them up.

What is a backup?

A backup is a second copy of a file, hard drive, or any amount of data.

Why should I backup?

A failed hard drive or storage device can happen at random.

Simple user errors can move, corrupt or delete your data for good.

Your data is the backbone of your business, facilitates your passions and can be of extreme important in your life. Keep your livelihood safe!

How do I backup my data?

We wrote a whole article about it, but here’s the punchline:

Make a copy of important data/files to an external hard drive or cloud storage service on a frequency basis.

Visit the unofficial home of World Backup Day for more details.

What should I do if I lost my data?

If your hard drive or storage device has been damaged physically due to water, fire or human error, your best chance at recovery is a professional data recovery service.

If your device is functioning properly and not making an irregular noises, a good first step might be downloading a free data recovery software. These come in many shapes and sizes, but can take some data recovery know-how to use effectively.

Software is the less expensive route, effective if your data is not of great importance to you.

Attention beginners: Trying to recover data on your own could lead to more losses, or damage to the device itself. Try your recovery skills on data and hard drives that aren’t important to you.

The Pledge

“I solemnly swear to backup my important documents and precious memories on March 31st.” (Take the pledge on Facebook or Twitter)

I will also tell my friends and family about World Backup Day – friends don’t let friends go without a backup.

Whether to an external drive, the cloud or a private server, copy and save all that important data somewhere safe. Do this often.

Now enjoy peace of mind!
