MEDIA PACKAGING & SHIPPING GUIDELINES

Since we only require the storage media alone for data recovery, it is extremely important that your hard drive or media are removed from the computer and properly packaged before shipping it to us in order to avoid additional damages. We advise that you keep all attached brackets, enclosures, cords, and other miscellaneous items unless instructed otherwise. Please note that if we are required to remove the hard drive from your laptop or computer, additional charges may apply.

Once you have filed a case request, you’ll receive a case reference ID and a shipping label. Please follow the step-by-step below to safely pack and ship your device to us or feel free to contact your case representative at any time for a specific question.

  • 1. Remove the hard drive from the computer

Detach or unplug any external computer parts or accessories including brackets, enclosures, cords, and any miscellaneous hardware other than the hard drive itself, and keep them with you unless otherwise instructed.

  • 2.Protect and insulate the drive

Use an anti-static bag, foam, or bubble wrap to assure that drive has at least 1-2 inches of insulation on all sides. Make sure the hard drive is tightly packed and cushioning is allowing no movement. Do not use loose foam peanuts.

  • 3. Secure inside a sturdy box

Protect and insulate by positioning the drive in the center of the sturdy corrugated box to assure it is protected by at least 2″ of protection on all sides. Seal the box with tape.

  • 4. Package label and seal for shipping

Write your SalvageData case reference ID number clearly on both sides of your packaging using bold print. This will help us identify your device faster.

Print the shipping label your case representative emailed you and tape it on top of the box.

  • 5. Contact transporting courier

Contact FedEx, UPS, USPS, or your preferred courier for shipping arrangements and a pick-up request. If you prefer, you can take your packed and sealed box to a FedEx drop-off location or even have them pack your device for you there. Your case representative will send you a QR Code to be scanned on-site by the FedEx agent.

  • 1. Identify and label all RAID member drives

Identify and label each member drive belonging to the RAID array according to its position within the array (starting with drive 0).

  • 2. Remove all RAID member drives

Detach or unplug all brackets, cables, and any external computer parts or accessories from the system / JBOD enclosure other than the drives themselves and keep them with you. Unless otherwise instructed, retain your RAID controller card as well, as it is not usually needed for data recovery services.

  • 3. Protect and insulate all member drives separately

Separately protect and insulate each individual drive inside an anti-static bag, with foam, or bubble wrap. Do not pack all drives together as one unit. Make sure each drive is tightly packed and cushioning is allowing no movement. Do not use loose foam peanuts.

  • 4. Secure inside a sturdy box

Protect and insulate all drives positioning drive with 1 – 2 inches of insulation from all sides inside a sturdy corrugated box. Seal the box with tape.
