Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions regarding RAID Server data recovery. If you have more questions, of if you would like a free initial analysis and evaluation-based quote, contact us today!
Must I submit all the drives that were in the RAID?
Yes. When the data you need to recover has been sliced up into small segments and distributed in a sequence to each drive member comprising your array, all of the members must be available in order for any useful data to be rebuilt from the RAID. No single hard drive within a RAID-5 contains even as much as one complete file – nothing but segments exist.
Can I recover data from RAID volume using software?
No, as using such software forces excessive read / write head activity which could result in further damages. The best way to recover a RAID volume is to make an exact “image” copy of each storage device individually. The “images” can then be used for rebuilding the original array structure and recover the necessary files and folders.
How fast can the data be recovered?
It largely depends on the service level selected, but standard typical RAID systems are usually recovered withing 1 to 3 business days and priority expedited projects can often be fully recovered only a matter of hours. More complicated and extensively damaged RAID system can also take weeks or months.
Do you perform all RAID Recovery work in-house?
Yes. SalvageData NEVER outsources or subcontracts recovery projects to third parties of any kind. All RAID recovery work is performed at one of our full service primary lab locations.
What RAID Systems does SalvageData recover data from?
SalvageData recovers data from all types of RAID arrays and sizes and all RAID controller types. Whether you have an off-the-shelf storage product, or a specially customized NAS, software-based or hardware, our experts can recover your lost data. For further details, read more about our RAID 5 Recovery, RAID 0 Recovery, RAID 1 Recovery and RAID 6 Recovery offerings.
What if only one or more disk from the array is damaged?
We require access to all RAID member disks to assure of the successful recovery of any RAID system. We can recover the binaries from single disks, but full data file recovery from a multiple disks array may require access to the other member disk that are not damaged.
