The Linux filesystem structure is completely different from that of windows and the OS interaction and manipulation of data is quite differently than that of Windows, therefore Linux data recovery is also quite a different challenge.

Linux uses only a single hierarchal directory structure which allows everything to start from the root directory '/', and to expand into sub-directories. Unlike DOS/Windows systems which can have various partitions and subdirectories under those partitions Linux places all the partitions under the root directory by 'mounting' them under specific directories.

In windows, the various partitions are detected at boot and assigned a drive letter. Under Linux, unless you mount a partition or a device, the system does not know of the existence of that partition or device. This might not seem to be the easiest way to provide access to your partitions or devices but it allows for greater flexibility and management of logical and physical drives as mount points.

Providing Linux Data recovery Service requires a distinctive skills knowledge and understanding of the EXT2 and EXT3 filesytems. We have highly skilled and trained open source contributing engineers who are able to access the most intricate parts of the Linux filesytem to ensure a successful recovery.

Linux Platform Comitment

Our Linux data recovery specialists have access to in-depth knowledge based on proven research allowing us to continue to be at the forefront of the industry. We invest in R&D putting more resources into developing our own proprietary Linux tools and technology to ensure that we maintain our high recovery success rate.

Our Linux Data recovery methods are warranty safe meeting all hard disk drive manufacturer warranty requirements. We guaranty the integrity of all electronic information recovered and work with you to assure that data recovered is accessible and restorable back to its original state.

In Case of Linux Hard Drive or RAID Failure

Follow these simple steps to get the drive in to us if and when a hard drive crash happens:

  1. Halt and power off the system, if your hard drive is making any buzzing or clicking noises, or any unusual sounds at all. Halting and powering off the system ensures you don't cause additional damage to the drive or data. Remember that in this situation, simply rebooting or trying to mount a filesystem can literally kill your hard drive if it is experiencing a physical failure.

  1. Linux file systems and disk configurations can be very complex so you should never attempt to fix the problem yourself. By opening or operating on a hard drive or RAID system without the proper knowledge, tools or environment, one could potentially cause more problems for the data, resulting in less of a chance for an affordable, successful recovery.

  2. Be wary of off the shelf do-it-yourself Linux data recovery software. In most cases, you will have only one chance to recover data. Installing and tickering with off the shelf recovery programs is a dangerous risk to take with critical data.

  3. Call a SalvageData Data Recovery Services specialist. Our Linux technicians will evaluate your data loss situation and instruct you on how to ship the drive(s) in to us. Typically, we can recover from most Linux failures within 24 to 72hrs, depending on the level of damage and service priority level selected.
