Data Storage Media Destruction Services

It stands to reason that, as the nation’s premier experts in data retrieval, we also know a thing or two about data destruction.

You may ask why anyone would want to intentionally destroy existing data. Think about all the information you have on your current personal computer. Medical information, credit card numbers, passwords, billing transactions, personal letters, and all sorts of other things that you wouldn’t want just anyone to get hold of. When it's time to replace that computer, do you want that information to be available to whoever might end up with your old machine? You might be surprised to know that deleting the data using the operating system delete function doesn't touch the data at all. Even reformatting the disk won't necessarily do a total destruction job on your sensitive information. Let us explain why not.

Data is written on your hard drive in groups of bits making up what is called a cluster, usually of a maximum size. If the size of the file exceeds the maximum capacity of a cluster (which happens on nearly every file), a new cluster is opened. Disk space may not be available right next to the existing cluster, so your file can be scattered all around the disk in a huge number of clusters. A function called the File Allocation Table (FAT) or New Technology File System (NTFS) keeps track of where all the clusters belonging to each file are located. When you delete a file, the FAT or NTFS record for that file is deleted, but the actual data residing in the original clusters still remains, available for anyone who might want to search for it. SalvageData has several methods to insure that your private data won't be available for anyone else to see. If you don't want the media completely destroyed, we employ special software to rewrite the disk, covering all sectors and blocks, or you can request multiple rewrites to make extra sure that all data is totally destroyed. Any of the methods we use preclude the reconstruction of any of the data in question. We provide a guarantee of 100% destruction so you can rest assured knowing that your sensitive information will never be recovered.

The secure destruction procedures we offer are designed to serve individuals, companies, and government agencies, whether you’re dealing with one disk or thousands. Because of  the sharp rise in personal identity theft, your private data is, unfortunately, of interest to many people other than yourself. Just as you need a shredder to properly destroy your confidential paper documents, SalvageData can be trusted to properly and completely destroy your private files and data. When it's time to upgrade your computer or entire computer system, turn to SalvageData for the safe disposal of your important digital files.

Think of us as your computer shredder.
